Ice In Space Takes Feature At Emerald

Ice in Space, ridden by Ron Bilodeau, ran 1-1/2 miles at Emerald Downs on Friday to win the third leg of the Exterior Wood Marathon series.

Ice in Space paid $13.20, $4.60 and $4.40 for the victory in 2:34.

Heesa Pirate, with Nathan Chaves up, came on strong at the end to finish second and pay $4 and $3.20. The exacta was worth $45.80.

Rapid Stream, which won the first leg of the marathon, paid $3.40 under Joe Steiner.

In the second leg of the marathon series on Sept. 20, the Bilodeau and Ice in Space finished third by a length behind winner Missbourboncounty going 1-1/4 miles.

“This is his second time on this race track and he felt a lot better about it,” said Bilodeau after winning the race, which was worth $9,050 in purse money. “Last time he looked around quite a bit.”

With the victory, Ice in Space created a four-horse deadlock at the top of the standings for the four-race marathon series.

The other three horses are Prince Dianon, Rapid Stream and Detroit Diesel. Missbourboncounty is in fifth place.

The final leg of the series, a 2-mile race, will be run Nov. 1.
