Pope Stronger, Doctors Say

Pope John Paul II took short walks Friday and ate his first solid food since undergoing an appendectomy three days ago.

The 76-year-old pontiff has no stomach pains and his intestinal functions are working normally, according to a medical statement.

“He even had biscuits for breakfast,” said Dr. Corrado Manni, chief anesthesiologist at Gemelli Polyclinic, where the pope has been hospitalized since Sunday.
