Returns Are In; Lakeside Nips Colfax

One Lakeside run Friday erased all of Colfax’s good runs.

Tai Saito’s 77-yard kickoff return down the sideline lifted visiting Lakeside (3-2, 3-0) to a 14-12 win over the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-1) in a key Northeast A League game.

Colfax outgained the Eagles 326-127, including 130 rushing yards by Josh Robinson on 22 carries.

Colfax also had two near misses on game-tying safeties in the final 2 minutes. In the quarterback comparison, Colfax’s Tyson Curtis was 6 of 16 for 83 yards and Lakeside’s Mike Rouse 5 of 11 for 35 yards.

The win gives Lakeside a boost toward one of the league’s two postseason berths.

Luke Sheppard and Cody Katzer combined for more than 250 rushing yards as the sixth-ranked Cougars (5-0, 3-0) beat the Scotties (1-4, 1-2) on the road.

Chewelah travels to Lakeside Oct. 25.

Aaron Carr and Mike Chappel combined for 252 rushing yards and the Cardinals (2-3, 1-2) picked up 379 on the ground to beat the visiting Stags (1-4, 1-2).

ML had three interceptions, including a screen pass that Brandon Moore snared and scored on after dodging Stags all over the field.
