Compiled From Wire Services

Julio Cesar Chavez made up for a slow start before overwhelming and stopping an outmatched Joey Gamache at the end of the eighth round of their scheduled 10-round junior lightweight fight in Anaheim, Calif.

On the undercard, Michael Carbajal, showing unusual power for a light flyweight, stopped Tomas Rivera in the fifth round to retain his IBF 108-pound title. Carbajal knocked down Rivera twice in the fourth round before finally finishing him with a three-punch combination that ended with a right hand and put Rivera on his knees in the center of the ring.

In other title bouts in Milan, Italy, Robin Reid of England knocked out reigning champion Vincenzo Nardiello of Italy in the seventh round to capture the WBC super-middleweight title, and Italy’s Giovanni Parisi retained his WBO super-lightweight crown by stopping Spanish challenger Sergio Rey-Revilla in the fourth round.
