Nirvana Album Debuts At No. 1

The Hollywood Reporter

Nirvana’s long-awaited live album “From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah” enters the Billboard charts at No. 1 this week.

The Geffen release, the second from Nirvana since singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994, bowed with sales of 158,000, according to SoundScan.

Perhaps more impressive is the No. 2 debut by Tool, a critically acclaimed but lesser-known band from Zoo Records. “Aenima” moved 147,000 copies, making it Zoo’s first breakaway hit.

It is Tool’s first album since “Undertow” 3-1/2 years ago, which passed the platinum mark in the United States.

Celine Dion dropped from the top slot to No. 3, though her sales were only down a hair, from 130,000 to 127,000.

Another big debut was Kenny G’s first studio album in four years. “The Moment” entered at No. 4 with sales of 105,000 copies. His previous studio release, “Breathless,” went on to sell 15 million copies.
