Single-Engine Plane Crashes Onto Freeway

Compiled From Wire Services

A single-engine plane crashed onto a freeway Saturday, seriously injuring two people aboard the aircraft, snapping power lines and blocking traffic for hours.

Fog probably contributed to the pre-dawn accident, said California Highway Patrol spokesman Mark Gregg. No one on the ground was hurt, although a few cars were slightly damaged by running over wreckage.

The 31-year-old pilot and his 21-year-old passenger were trapped for 45 minutes inside the Piper Archer plane after it nose-dived into the concrete center-divide wall of Interstate 805, Gregg said.
