Canda Gm Strike Affects Us Workers

From Staff And Wire Reports

Layoffs resulting from the strike against General Motors Corp.’s Canadian unit continued to spread south Monday, with 5,911 workers affected in the United States and Mexico.

The latest layoffs were at the Hamtramck assembly plant in Detroit, the first U.S. assembly plant affected by the strike. GM said 1,350 of the plant’s 3,900 workers were laid off there Monday, the strike’s 13th day. The rest of the plant’s workers tentatively will be laid off Tuesday.

More U.S. plant slowdowns and closures are expected as parts are depleted.
