Ferris Clinches 6th Gsl Title

Janelle Morrisette had 23 assists and three aces Tuesday and Ferris (13-0) defeated visiting Gonzaga Prep 15-3, 15-10, 15-4 to clinch at least a tie for its sixth Greater Spokane League volleyball championship.

Darcy Ruemping added 15 digs for the Saxons, who have won two GSL titles for coach Stacey Ward - the last a three-way tie in 1993. Jen Williams’ 11 kills and three blocks led the Bullpups (8-6), 1995 champions.

Every team from Ferris to fifth-place G-Prep has clinched a District 8-AAA playoff berth. The race for the sixth and final spot became tighter as North Central (3-10) rallied for a 11-15, 16-18, 15-12, 15-6, 15-9 win over visiting Shadle Park (4-10).

Shannon Nelson had 26 assists and 14 digs for NC. Shadle’s Michelle Etter had 23 kills.

Rogers (10-3) tied idle Mead for second place and kept host Central Valley (3-10) from gaining ground on sixth with a 15-5, 18-16, 15-13 win over the Bears. Karly Nill had 16 kills and six digs for Rogers, which led the first game 10-0, the second 7-0 and the final 6-0. Crystal Lee had 15 kills and 11 digs for the Bears, who led the middle game 16-15 and the closer 13-11.

Kelsey Williams and Shannon Snow had seven digs apiece and Lewis and Clark (9-4) shook off an 11-4 firstgame deficit to defeat host University 15-12, 15-9, 11-15, 15-5. Jessica Cole had 15 digs and served the Titans (0-14) to the first-game lead.

Deb Asbury had four of her six aces in the first game, and Jennifer Tilton and Jenny Kann added 12 assists apiece to lead host East Valley (8-0) to a 15-5, 15-2, 15-5 Frontier League win over Clarkston (3-4).

Rochelle King led Clarkston with four kills, six assists and six digs.

Paige Quistad had four consecutive fourth-game kills and Colville (5-2) scored 14 straight points in the first game to fuel a 15-4, 15-3, 11-15, 15-10 win over visiting Cheney (2-5).

Sarah Collins had aces in each game and West Valley (2-6) scored the final four points of the night for a 15-8, 15-3, 15-11 win over visiting Riverside (0-8).

Frontier girls soccer

Kdee Anderson’s goal and assist allowed fourth-place Cheney (5-5-2, 5-3-2, 17 points) to tie visiting Deer Park/Riverside 2-2 and thrust West Valley into first place.

DP/R (8-1-1, 7-1-1, 22) salvaged the tie when Nikki Snyder fed Bernice Stime at 43 minutes.

WV (8-3-1, 8-2-0, 24) stopped Clarkston 6-0 as Dawn Salfer had her second consecutive hat trick. Gabrielle McClintock put the Eagles up 2-0 in the first half, then fed Salfer and Cheryl Nelson in the second. The Bantams are 0-9-1.

EV (8-3-1, 7-2-1, 22) joined DP/R in second place with a 3-1 win over visiting Medical Lake (2-9-1, 2-7-1).
