Mariners Fire Cuellar, Miss Out On Miller

From Wire Reports

The Seattle Mariners have fired pitching coach Bobby Cuellar after a season that netted them the worst earned run average in team history.

“Someone had to be blamed, and it was me,” Cuellar said Monday in confirming he had been sacked by Woody Woodward, vice president of baseball operations.

This season, Seattle’s 25 pitchers posted a 5.21 ERA.

One coach who won’t be leaving is hitting-bench coach Lee Elia, who had been contemplating retirement.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles fired pitching coach Pat Dobson Tuesday and are on the verge of hiring former Orioles pitching coach Ray Miller.

The Mariners reportedly have offered Miller a two-year contract, but the Orioles are expected to at least match that.
