Agitated Ape Arrives Safely In Seattle

From Staff And Wire Reports

Vip, the gorilla that got fed up with flying in Salt Lake City, arrived in Seattle Thursday by van.

The 17-year-old lowland gorilla left Boston en route for Seattle on Tuesday, but travel stress got the better of him after changing planes in Salt Lake.

As the Delta Airlines flight taxied down the runway, 490-pound Vip began pounding on his crate in the cargo hold so loudly the pilot and passengers could hear the noise.

The pilot returned the plane to the terminal, and Vip and his handlers got off. The flight was delayed about 90 minutes.

Vip spent the night at Salt Lake City’s Hogle Zoo before departing by van on Wednesday for the 700-mile trip to Seattle.

The gorilla was sent from Boston’s Franklin Park Zoo to Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo for breeding purposes.
