Fbi Agent Kills Man After Threats At Dam

Associated Press

An armed man who is believed to have left a taped bomb threat Sunday at the Bonneville Dam was shot a few hours later when he showed up at the dam with a gun, authorities said.

The threat to blow up the federal dam was apparently left on a tape recorder near a telephone at the visitor center on the Washington side of the dam across the Columbia River, said Diana Brimhall, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokeswoman.

“I understand there was a bomb threat targeted at blowing up the dam,” Brimhall said. FBI Special Agent Ray Lauer could not confirm the report of a bomb threat or whether anything explosive was found at the dam.

The taped threat was found about 4 p.m. A man with a gun later showed up at the dam and, after a confrontation, was shot by an FBI agent between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said.
