Spokane Hunter Also Spends Night Lost In The Woods

A Spokane man burned a pack and some of his clothing Sunday night to keep warm after he got lost in the North Idaho woods.

William R. Stuart, 26, was hunting north of Prichard in the late afternoon when he started tracking a bull elk and got lost, according to a Shoshone County sheriff’s report.

He dug a hole at the bottom of a tree stump and built a fire using a starter kit that his father had insisted he take with him.

He burned his fanny pack and some of his clothing as temperatures dipped into the teens.

Shoshone County search and rescue workers were called out. But Stuart was able to find his way out Monday morning following his tracks in the snow, according to the report.
