US West Communications Group reported a 2.2 percent increase in earnings for the third quarter of 1996, helped by a healthy gain in sales of new products.
The net income of $282 million on revenues of $2.52 billion - a 5.3 percent increase from the $2.39 billion in the third quarter of 1995 - compares with $276 million in 1995’s third quarter.
Earnings per share were unchanged from 1995 at 59 cents.
The quarter’s revenue boost was driven by continued strong local service revenue growth of 9.3 percent, the regional telephone company said Wednesday.
Revenue growth in new products, such as Caller ID, Voice Messaging, and data networking services, were up nearly 50 percent from the same period in 1996.
