Ferris Finds Its Place, Puts Indians In Theirs

Ty Williams is back where he belongs and the Saxons are where they thought they would be.

With Williams running for 115 yards and two touchdowns and Justin Bursch running for two scores and passing for two more, Ferris rolled past North Central 41-0 Thursday at Albi Stadium.

“This is the team I thought we’d be six weeks ago,” Ferris coach Clarence Hough said. “This is the team we really are. I told them I don’t know why we were dealt the hand we were dealt. I told them if they would persevere, good things would happen.”

As the Saxons (2-5 overall, 2-4 in the Greater Spokane League) struggled early, Williams was moved from tailback to linebacker to fullback before settling back in as the feature back.

“I’m back where I belong,” he said. “I feel I run better from tailback, that’s the position for me.”

Williams scored the first touchdown by going 11 yards untouched around end thanks to blocks by fullback Joel Soter and wide receiver Tom Servine. Bursch scored on tremendous runs of 8 and 35 yards in the second quarter before Williams got outside behind a block from receiver Jonathon Parker for a 6-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

“They blitz so much, anytime we get outside we can go,” Williams said. “Speed was a big factor.”

Two shanked punts helped Ferris gain an early advantage in field position that led to the first TD. Then, NC quarterback/linebacker Mike Caballero was ejected on Bursch’s first touchdown run for throwing a punch at a blocker.

After Williams made it 28-0, Bursch dumped a short pass over the middle to Soter who went 53 yards to score late in the third quarter. On that play, NC cornerback and backup QB Ryan Corigliano was hurt. Sophomore Nick Froscheiser finished up and completed his first seven passes.

“Where do you start?” NC coach Wes Hobbs said. “Personal fouls, jumping offsides. We’re not the same team we were last week. This was a big setback for our program. We came out here and didn’t play with any control.”

The Indians (1-5, 1-6) were penalized 11 times for 95-1/2 yards.
