Campaign Trail

Brit bookies bummed by Bob

WASHINGTON

The British bookmaker Ladbroke’s has stopped taking bets on Clinton’s re-election, saying the president has a lock, reports the Washington weekly newspaper The Hill. Not since 1964, when Lyndon B. Johnson blew a hole in Barry Goldwater’s risky campaign, has that happened. Odds on Clinton’s reelection had been 1 to 10. Ladbroke’s will still give 7 to 1 odds on a Dole upsiet and 50 to 1 on Ross Perot.
