Surgery May End Fortney’s Season

Tacoma News Tribune

Shane Fortney’s knee isn’t getting any better, and he will likely have surgery and start preparing for 1997, the Washington Huskies quarterback said Tuesday.

Fortney suffered the injury in the second game of the season, costing him his starting job, and has been trying to rehabilitate it ever since.

Fortney said the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee would be replaced by an Achilles’ tendon from a cadaver. He said he would consult team doctors and his parents before making a final decision.
