Invoking the Constitution, speakers and singers at Saturday’s “Rally for the Bill of Rights” on the Mall criticized the federal government as intrusive and oppressive.
Charlena Alden, chairman of Citizens Against Legal Loopholes, said news stories reporting that the rally was being staged by militia groups were inaccurate and were to blame for the low turnout. About 200 people came; organizers had expected thousands.
“We are not militia,” she said. “We are here to get issues out in the open and call on Congress to at least hold hearings on legal reform and education issues.”
