Mongolia Cholera Epidemic Postpones School

Compiled From Wire Services

Mongolia has postponed the opening of its school year for two weeks because of a cholera epidemic, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.

Students will start school on Sept. 16 instead of on Sunday, Xinhua said.

Eleven people have died and 151 others have been infected with cholera since the epidemic began Aug. 8, the Mongolian Health Ministry said. At the epidemic’s height in mid-August, nearly 3,000 people were placed in quarantine and towns and cities were sealed off.
