Attack On Iraq Boosts Dollar
The dollar ended higher Tuesday against most major currencies, holding onto gains made when traders flocked to the U.S. currency as a safe haven when the United States attacked Iraqi strongholds.
The U.S. currency maintained its highs against the Japanese yen and regained some of its early strength against the German mark to end higher against the German currency.
“The dollar popped up overnight (primarily) on the Iraqi situation,” said Bill Bertha, a senior currency dealer at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh.
