Alberta Ballet Looking For ‘Nutcracker’ Players

The Alberta Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” returns to Spokane this winter with performances at the Opera House Dec. 5 to 8.

As in past years, the ballet company needs young local talent to join the Spokane performances.

Auditions for ballet students will be Sept. 22 at Spokane Falls Community College in the music department, Building 15.

Tryout times are:

Boys, 10 to 16 years old, between 4 feet 7 inches, and 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a minimum of one year’s ballet training, 1 p.m.

Girls and boys, 10 to 12, between 4 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a minimum of four years’ training, 2 p.m.

Girls and boys, 10 to 15, between 4 feet 10 inches and 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a minimum of three years’ training, 3 p.m.

Girls and boys, 10 to 13, between 4 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a minimum of five years’ training, 4:30 p.m.

Girls and boys, 12 and older, between 4 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 2 inches, with five years’ training; 6 p.m.

Participants must arrive 30 minutes before their audition times. The audition fee is $10, and if selected, the performance fee is $38.

More auditions

The Rogue Players will hold auditions for the British classic “Charley’s Aunt” at the Masonic Temple, 1108 W. Riverside, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Monday.

The production calls for two women in their 20s and one woman slightly older, as well as six men of various ages.

The Spokane-area Children’s Chorus will hold auditions for kids 7 to 17, from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington. Call 324-0773 for an appointment.

Local feats

JoAnne Nixon’s painting, “Memories,” was selected for the Western Colorado Society’s national exhibition. It will displayed Oct. 4 to 30 at the Western Colorado Center for the Arts in Grand Junction.

Also, Nixon’s watercolor, “Summer Heat,” was accepted into the Salmagundi Club’s national exhibition last June in New York City.

Richard Twedt, chairman of Eastern Washington University’s art department and director of its University Galleries, has been included in the national juried art exhibition, “An American in Italy.” Two paintings, “Italian Sky No. 1” and “Italian Sky No. 4,” were selected.
