Roy Bassave Miami Herald

The “Star Trek” merchandising machine is on warp speed, as usual. (Could Ferengis be behind this?) Here’s a sampling:

The Franklin Mint is selling numbered, 10-inch, full-lead European crystal Starship Enterprises. They are accented with 24-karat gold, sterling silver and red crystal cabochons. $295. Call (800) THE-MINT for information and for Official Star Trek Collector’s Catalog. QVoice offers “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Voice Print” computer security program. By requiring a voice match, Voice Print restricts unauthorized people from signing on to your computer, and limits access to the Internet, adult material and excessive game play. $79.95. Available from software dealers. Call (201) 786-6878.

Hamilton Collection is offering several “Star Trek” 30th Anniversary Plate collections: The Power of Command set features four “Trek” captains, $35 each; Space, The Final Frontier, eight plates featuring the ships, $37.50. Call (800) 228-2945.

Hallmark Card stores have four Christmas ornaments: “Star Trek” 30 Years, which is a set of two die-cast metal ornaments (Enterprise and Gaileo Shuttlecraft with display base), $45; U.S.S. Voyager Keepsake Magic Ornament, $24; and Mr. Spock and Cmdr. William T. Riker Sculptures, $14.95 each.

Scipubtech offers cut-away posters of the original Enterprise, featuring every deck of the ship, the history of its captains and of the other ships named Enterprise (it’s the only poster that shows every part of the ship in detail). $15. Signed lithographic prints, $30. Call (313) 884-6882.

Mattel offers a Ken and Barbie “Star Trek” set for $75.

Paramount Home Video offers “Star Trek: The Seven Screen Voyages,” a $104.65 box set of all the movies, and “The Borg Collective,” a $59.80 box set of TV episodes (“Q Who?”; “The Best of Both Worlds, Part I and II”; “I, Borg”).

Simon & Schuster Interactive will release new interactive CD-ROMs this fall-winter: “Star Trek: Borg,” starring John DeLancie as Q, and episode guides for the original “Star Trek” and “The Next Generation.”

Pocket Books has released its “Star Trek” 30th Anniversary 1997 Calendar, and in December will release the novelization of “Star Trek: First Contact.”

New members of the Official Star Trek Fan Club (the only club authorized by Paramount) get the 30th anniversary issue of the club’s bimonthly magazine, which includes the first color photos of “Star Trek: First Contact.” Write Box 111000, Aurora, Colo. 80011. It’s $11.95 to join.

Lincoln Enterprises, owned by Majel Barrett Roddenberry, has a catalog of rare “Star Trek” items. Call (818) 989-4971 or write to Lincoln Enterprises, P.O. Box 691370, West Hollywood, Calif. 90069.
