Midshipman Quits Over Silence About Classmate

Associated Press

A midshipman left the Naval Academy on Monday for keeping silent after a classmate confided she once helped commit murder.

Jay Guild turned in a letter of resignation Friday and moved off the campus on Monday, said academy spokeswoman Karen Myers.

Guild, 18, had told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in Texas he was quitting rather than face dismissal for violating the honor code.

Guild resigned because of classmate Diane Zamora, 18, who was arrested Friday at her Fort Worth home and charged with the murder of Adrianne Jones, a rival for her boyfriend’s affections.

Guild said Zamora first mentioned the killing during plebe summer, the training session for first-year midshipmen that begins in July.

Guild, of Kankakee, Ill., said he initially stayed silent because he believed Zamora was lying.
