Teen Charged With Ramming Deputy

From Staff Reports

A 17-year-old Riverside High School student has been charged with assault for allegedly ramming his pickup truck into an off-duty sheriff’s deputy.

The incident occurred Friday night in the Chattaroy school’s parking lot, authorities said.

The suspect, who was reportedly accompanied by two other youths, fled the scene.

Deputy Mark Ranz flipped over the pickup after he was hit, but he suffered only bruises and an injured knee.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Friday, Ranz and another off-duty deputy patrolling the parking lot during a football game saw three teenagers in a white Chevrolet pickup shouting insults at Riverside High’s opponent, sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick said.

As the deputies approached, the truck accelerated, hitting Ranz.

Witnesses identified the driver.
