Colombia’s Vp Quits, Says Samper Should
Colombia’s vice president resigned Tuesday and called on President Ernesto Samper to step down as well, saying he lacks credibility.
Humberto de la Calle, who many believe is considering a 1998 presidential bid, said Colombia needs fresh leaders who can deal with rising unemployment, coca farmer protests and the worst rebel attacks in decades.
Samper, his credibility battered by evidence he won election in 1994 with drug money, has ignored repeated calls from business leaders and political opponents to surrender office.
