Resume: 46 … bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1972 and law degree from Boston University in 1975 … Worked five years as deputy prosecutor in King County, four years as attorney and community affairs manager for US West Communications, and legal advisor for Seattle Human Rights Department … Served 11 years in House, including five as Appropriations Committee chairman … Currently King County executive, managing largest county in Washington, 12,800 employees and $2 billion budget … Born in Seattle … Married to Mona Lee, former KING-TV reporter, no children.

Finances: Had $275,325 on hand as of Aug. 27. Out-of-state contributors, especially from Asian community, helped fill Locke’s coffers.

Why he’s running: “I was born and raised in the state of Washington and care very deeply about its future. I am particularly interested in improving the quality of our education system.”

What he’d do first: Pass bills to improve public education, create jobs, fight crime. Also wants to conduct a management review of the Department of Social and Health Services.
