College Level History Classes At West Valley High

West Valley High School is offering two college classes on campus this fall.

Under Eastern Washington University’s Running Start program, the high school will offer art history and 18th century history.

Classes start Sept. 23, and students can register through Sept. 20.

The classes are open to Running Start students from any school district, as well as all EWU students.

Five or six West Valley students have signed up for each course, so far. West Valley teacher Nancy Cartwright expects more, particularly more EWU students.

She said the first EWU course at the high school drew 12 students last spring.

“We’re glad to see these students build themselves into the best honors students they can be,” Cartwright said.

Winter semester, science classes will be offered, most likely biology and anthropology. Spring semester, astronomy, and philosophy courses will be offered at the high school.

Students from outside West Valley who are interested in enrolling should call EWU Running Start coordinator Mark Baldwin, 359-2449.
