Officers Charged With Corruption
Some 100 high-ranking Russian military officers, including 14 generals, are facing corruption or embezzlement charges, the Interfax news agency reported Sunday.
Several have already been convicted, including the former director of the Lomonosov Air College and the former head of the armed forces technical inspectorate, Interfax said, quoting the chief military prosecutor’s office.
Corruption has become endemic to Russia’s demoralized armed forces, which has suffered steep cuts in budget and prestige since the end of the Cold War.
