S. Koreans Recall Inchon Landings

South Korean marines marched in the streets of Inchon on Sunday to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the U.S.-led amphibious landing that turned the tide of the Korean War.

Accompanied by an armored car and 100 Korean War veterans, the 200 soldiers in battle fatigues were cheered on by residents of Inchon, a port city 31 miles west of Seoul.

Flowers were tossed in the waters off Wolmi Island to remember the men who died to put 13,000 U.S. Marines ashore.

Flowers were also laid at the foot of the 20-foot bronze statue of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, who ordered the landing that allowed the allied troops to cut the advancing North Korean army in two and retake Seoul.
