Suspect In Torture Of Women Shot To Death

Compiled From Wire Services

A man wanted in Maryland for chaining two women in his basement as sex slaves was shot to death in New York.

Richard Elliott, 57, was slain Sunday night at the Andes, N.Y., home of Robert Webster, police said Monday. The motive for the shooting was not immediately known, and Webster, 45, was not charged.

Elliott had been sought since Thursday, when two nearly naked prostitutes in chains escaped from Elliott’s home outside Baltimore. The women said he had kidnapped, beaten, sexually abused and threatened them with death in a torture chamber in his basement.
