Fokker Lands Order To Modify 737 Jets

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Dutch industrial group Stork NV said Wednesday its aircraft maintenance subsidiary Fokker Aviation BV has received an order to modify Boeing 737 jets starting next month.

The Dutch company declined to give financial details.

Stork official Hans van den Boogaard said the new order expands an existing maintenance contract with Boeing. Previous projects only involved simple maintenance, he said.

“This aircraft modification order is more important, since it involves high-tech service,” said van den Boogaard. “We hope more orders will follow.”

Fokker Aviation, which was taken over by Stork in July, is the surviving part of the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker NV that went bankrupt in March.

Stork spokesman Jan Huurdeman stressed that the Boeing order will not affect current takeover negotiations between bankrupt Fokker and Korea’s Samsung Aerospace Industries Ltd., a unit of Samsung Group.
