Weak Truck Sales Force Layoffs At Mack

From Staff And Wire Reports

Mack Trucks Inc. announced Wednesday it will cut more than 300 jobs, or about 5 percent of its work force, amid weakness in the sale of heavy-duty trucks.

The reductions in Mack’s work force of 5,700 worldwide are expected to be complete by year-end, said spokesman John Mies. The industrywide weakness in heavy-duty truck sales is expected to continue for the rest of this year and through 1997.

Mack, based in Allentown, was purchased in 1990 by France’s Renault V.I.
