Wwii Resistance Fighter, Writer Dies

Compiled From Wire Services

Max Manus, a World War II resistance fighter who wrote three popular books about his daring raids against Nazi occupation forces in Norway, died Friday. He was 81.

Manus was part of Kompani Linge, a group of volunteers trained in England for secret missions in Norway during the 1940 to 1945 Nazi occupation. Manus sank German warships, including a battleship, and blew up more than 100 German warplanes.

“Manus did more damage to the German war machine than many major military actions,” the Norwegian state radio network NRK said in reporting his death.
