Winding up a trip that was a test of his health and his popular appeal, Pope John Paul II showed on Sunday that he still has the stamina to meet the demands of his flock.

Before a crowd of more than 200,000 people, the pope celebrated an open-air Mass commemorating the 1,500th anniversary of the baptism of Clovis, a 5th-century Frankish king.
