Marino Expected To Be Out Three To Four Weeks

From Wire Reports

Dan Marino is expected to be sidelined three to four weeks with a slight fracture in his right ankle.

Marino suffered the injury during the Miami Dolphins’ first series Monday night in a 10-6 loss at Indianapolis.

An MRI test Tuesday determined the extent of the injury. Because the Dolphins have a bye this week, Marino might miss only two more games - at home against Seattle on Oct. 6 and at Buffalo on Oct. 13.

Ravens sign Green, Morris

Hoping to add some badly needed punch to a lackluster offense, the Baltimore Ravens signed tight end Eric Green and suspended running back Bam Morris on Tuesday.

Morris, released by the Pittsburgh Steelers after pleading guilty to a marijuana possession charge on June 26, has to wait out an NFL-imposed suspension, and will be eligible to begin practicing with the team on Oct. 7 and play in the Oct. 13 game at Indianapolis.

Green, who most recently played with Miami, was signed despite swelling in his left knee, the result of a recurring injury that is expected to keep him out of action for a minimum of several days.

To make room under the salary cap, the Ravens released running back Leroy Hoard.

Deion’s divorce off

At the request of both parties, a judge in McKinney, Texas, dismissed the divorce petition filed by Carolyn Sanders, wife of the Dallas Cowboys wide receiver/cornerback Deion Sanders.

“The parties let the court know that they wish to attempt to reconcile,” said Mike McCurley, Mrs. Sanders’ attorney. “The court was delighted about that. That’s where we are technically and practically at this point.”

Nagle joins Falcons

In the wake of quarterback Jeff George’s suspension, the Atlanta Falcons re-signed Browning Nagle as a backup.

Bobby Hebert, who had been playing behind George, will start Sunday when the Falcons face the 49ers in San Francisco.

Nagle, 28, was released by the Falcons during their final cut on Aug. 25.

George, meanwhile, said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press, “I put my heart and soul into this season and I wanted to lead this team to the playoffs. To have things yanked from underneath me is tough to take.”

While conceding regret about the language he used in a sideline argument with Falcons coach June Jones, George said he had every right to express his displeasure after he was benched in the third quarter with the Falcons trailing 23-10. He had completed 10 consecutive passes before an interception prompted Jones to make a change.

Around the league

Chiefs wide receiver Lake Dawson, diagnosed with a tendon injury to the right knee, is out for the season. Dawson will be replaced by Sean LaChapelle … Shayne Edge, a former World League punter who was cut during training camp, re-signed with the Steelers. Pittsburgh sought a punter after Josh Miller was lost for two to six weeks because of a hernia.
