Clubs Have Sights Set On Accuracy

Rich Landers Outdoors Editor

Rifle clubs in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene have opened their ranges to non-members to assure that every hunter has a chance to go afield this fall with a rifle that’s properly sighted in.

At the Spokane Rifle Club, non-members are invited to the range through Oct. 11 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., except Mondays and Tuesdays. The club is at the junction of Aubrey White Parkway and Rifle Club Road along the Spokane River downstream from the Bowl and Pitcher.

The club charges $6 for hunters with one firearm and $8 for one hunter with two firearms.

The Coeur d’Alene Rifle & Pistol Club, which is on Atlas Road about 2 miles north of Seltice Way, will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. through October. The fee for non-members is $4. There’s no limit on the number of rifles a shooter can sight-in.

Both clubs provide targets, hearing and eye protection and helpers.

“We do this as a service, because hunters should be in the field to harvest animals, not wound them,” said Tom Higgins, Spokane Rifle Club spokesman.

“Safety is our top concern,” Higgins said. “All firearms must arrive at the club fully unloaded.”
