Playfair Still Hopes To Race

Attorneys for Playfair Race Course will return to court Friday for the next round in the legal fight to keep the Spokane facility alive.

Director of racing Ted Martin said he hasn’t ruled out a ‘96 season at Playfair. The best that Inland Northwest horse owners and fans could hope for is an early-November opening, he added.

Thurston County Superior Court judge Paula Casey will rule on a request by New Playfair Park, Inc. for a temporary restraining order that would suspend racing dates recently awarded to Yakima Meadows and Emerald Downs.

“I’m an eternal optimist but I haven’t ruled it (a racing season) out yet,” said Martin, vice-president of New Playfair Park, Inc., a subsidiary of the Muckleshoot Tribe.
