Auntie’s Celebrates 10th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that 10 years has passed since Auntie’s Bookstore held its first literary reading.

But capped off by Sue Bender’s reading at 7:30 p.m., for which only standing room remains, Spokane’s biggest independent bookstore will celebrate that first decade anniversary all day Saturday.

Beginning at 11 a.m., Valentino R. Jiminez will tell stories, poems and sing songs from his activity kit “The Swing Set.” Between 1 to 3 p.m., Spokane’s Hijinx Improv Comedy Theater will perform, followed from 3 to 5 p.m. with a concert by the Ferris High School Band.

Pianist Sarah Hall will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Bender’s reading will conclude the evening. Bender is the author of several books, including “Everyday Scared” and “Plain and Simple: A Woman’s Journey to the Amish.”
