Obituaries

Wayne Myers Spokane

Service for Wayne Iry Myers, 93, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Myers died Wednesday.

He was born in Pleasant Home, Ohio.

He and his family moved to Ford, Wash., when he was young. He worked on farms and in sawmills and later became a Western Pine Association lumber grader for Boise Cascade in Spokane.

In 1967, he retired and moved with his family to Nampa, Idaho. He graded lumber in Midvale, Idaho, and worked at Treasure Valley Woodworking in Nampa.

He and his wife, Elizabeth, returned to Spokane in 1994 and lived at Holman Gardens Retirement Center.

Mr. Myers was a member of of the Assembly of God church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; two sons, Norman Myers of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Daniel Myers of Toronto, Ontario; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Walter Stallman Spokane

Service for Walter N. Stallman, 75, was Thursday at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Columbus, N.D., Mr. Stallman died Monday.

He was a longtime Spokane and Coeur d’Alene resident and was a sheetmetal worker.

He was a member of the North American Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni, Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 66, the American Legion and Eagles Lodge No. 2.

His wife, Gerry, died in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Culton and Carol Gross, both of Garfield, Wash.; three sons, Jerome Stallman of Sprague, Wash., Richard Stallman of Spokane and Gary Stallman of Seattle; a brother, Bill Stallman of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Hilda of Coeur d’Alene, and Edith of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lucille Adams Spokane

Memorial Mass for Lucille K. Adams, a former elementary school teacher, will be at noon today at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral. Inurnment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Adams, who was born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, died Sunday. She was 86.

She was an elementary school teacher for the Spokane School District for 38 years.

Her husband, Charles Adams, died in 1990.

She is survived by a sister, Ethel Hall of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Charity Office or the Union Gospel Mission.

Leona Ayotte Spokane

Service for Leona Joy Ayotte, 70, is set for 2 p.m. today at HennesseySmith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ayotte, who died Wednesday, was born in a log cabin on the Salmon River in Lemhi County, Idaho.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Marlin Ayotte, preceded her in death.

She is survived by five sons, Doug Ayotte of Tremonton, Utah, Leon Vance and Marlin Ayotte, both of Spokane, Dean Ayotte of Santa Ana, Calif., and William Ayotte of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Myrth Merrill, Joy DeHamer, Merry Macleod and Gay Richardson, all of Spokane; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Esther Nelson Spokane

Service for Esther V. Nelson, 80, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Miss Nelson, who was born in Walker, Minn., died Saturday.

She graduated from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis and had lived in Spokane for 31 years.

She worked as an office clerk.

She was a member of First Church of the Open Bible.

She is survived by two sisters, Vera Beamis of Spokane and Martha Anderson of St. James, Minn.

Elliot ‘Elly’ Bush Spokane

No service will be held for Elliot Phillips “Elly” Bush, 84, at her request. There will be private cremation. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Born in Kirkland, Ill., Mrs. Bush died Wednesday.

She was a 44-year Spokane resident and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper in doctors’ offices.

Her husband, John Bush, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Dinah Thoreson of Seattle, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Koller of Spokane.

Florence York Tekoa, Wash.

Memorial service for Florence York, 79, was Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa.

Mrs. York, who died Monday, was born in Opheim, Mont.

In 1937, she married Edwin York in Glasgow, Mont. They lived in California before moving to Tekoa in 1950.

They also had lived in Spokane and Western Montana. They settled in Spokane again in 1973.

Her husband died in 1994, and Mrs. York moved to the Tekoa Care Center last November.

She was a member of Victory Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Opportunity.

Survivors include a son, Donald York of Spokane; two daughters, Carolyn Stender of Oakesdale, Wash., and Susan Gordon of Malta, Mont.; two brothers, Tom Matchett of Seeley Lake, Mont., and Walt Matchett of Chinook, Mont.; three sisters, Laura Schubert of Chinook, Annie Thielke of Billings, Mont., and Eva Bergtool of St. Paul, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lila (Leliefeld) Blair Loon Lake, Wash.

Rosary service for Lila Virginia Leliefeld Blair, 59, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Springdale (Wash.) Community Cemetery. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Chewelah, Wash., Mrs. Blair died Tuesday at home from cancer.

She was a longtime resident of the Clayton and Loon Lake areas.

She worked as a meat cutter and had worked at All Seasons in Loon Lake, and at the Clayton L&L Grocery, where she was half-owner.

She was a member of the Deer Park Eagles and the Loon Lake Ladies of the Moose. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Clayton for 40 years until it closed.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Blair; her mother, Virginia Leliefeld of Loon Lake; four daughters, Tammy Matherly of Chattaroy, Cindy Meyers of Kennewick, Brianne Bond, at the home, and Jena Nickerson of Springdale, Wash.; a son, Jim Blair; three brothers, Don, Paul and Jack Leliefeld; and six grandchildren.

Eldon Booher Deer Park

Service for Eldon Elsworth Booher, 63, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Booher, a lifetime Deer Park resident, died Tuesday.

He was a chief agent for Northwest Airlines at Spokane International Airport for many years and later in Florida and Ohio. He returned to Spokane with the airline and retired in 1988 after 33 years.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and had served in the Navy in the early 1950s.

His wife, Helen Booher, died in 1994. Mr. Booher is survived a son, Russell Booher, and a daughter, Stella Nestoss, both of Deer Park; two sisters, Carole Greene of Colfax, Wash., and Joan “Joni” VanSteenkist of Ephrata, Wash., and three grandchildren.

John Becker Chewelah, Wash.

Memorial service for John Richard Becker, 46, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Northwest Alloys Training Center in Addy, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Becker, who was born in Denison, Iowa, died Tuesday at home after a farming accident.

He moved to Seattle with his family when he was in grade school.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star.

He left his job as a microwave communications technician with the Boeing Co. to begin farming in the Chewelah Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Tairi Becker; a daughter, Chelsea Becker, and a son, Clayton Becker, both at home; and four sisters, Elizabeth Becker of Washington, D.C., Janice and Susan Becker, both of Chicago, and Mary Nelson of Baltimore.

Harry Sagendorf Spokane

Funeral Mass for Harry A. Sagendorf, 61, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Sagendorf, who died Tuesday, was born in Red Lodge, Mont.

He had lived in Spokane since 1956 and had worked as a bartender at the Davenport Hotel’s Matador Room for more than 18 years, The Trio for 12 years and the Moose Lodge for eight years.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Bartenders Union.

He was an Army veteran.

Mr. Sagendorf is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley; his mother, LaVerne McNearney of Spokane; a son, Harry Sagendorf Jr., and two daughters, Jana Miller and DeeAnn DeHaas, all of Spokane; two brothers, Don and Lyal Sagendorf, and two sisters, Deloris English and Sheryl McNearney, all of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Ilo Stensrud Spokane

No service will be held for Ilo Stensrud, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Stensrud died Monday at home. She was 79.

Mrs. Stensrud was a Spokane resident for 17 years.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Rolf Stensrud, died in 1984.

She is survived by a son, Vaughan Stensrud of Spokane; two daughters, Gay Maddox of Spokane and Elsa Anderson of California; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
