Quinn Group Drops Major Ad Account

From Staff And Wire Reports

Quinn Group Advertising, a long-time agency for Northwest Bedding Co., has resigned the $180,000-per-year account because of concerns about the mattress company’s new marketing program.

Agency owner Jerry Quinn said he quit one of his oldest accounts when Northwest’s new general manager decided to handle his own advertising.

“He’s taken them in a direction we cannot abide by,” said Quinn, who also handles advertising for Knutdsen Chevrolet and Jewelry Design Center.

Bob Evanson, owner of Spokane-based Northwest Bedding, defended the advertising change as a fresh approach.

“We found that business last year had been spotty so we’ve been trying different things,” he said.

Evanson last month hired Hal Patton, former president of the 14-store Denver furniture chain, Serta Denver, as general manager.

Company ads published since Patton’s arrival have changed considerably. Bold headlines and cartoon illustrations have replaced the tamer, photo-illustrated ads produced by Quinn.
