Search Continues For Man Who Fell From Footbridge

Associated Press

Authorities searched the banks of the Wenatchee River on Thursday for a man missing and presumed drowned.

George B. Smith, 49, of Wenatchee, was collecting driftwood with two friends Wednesday night when he slipped off a footbridge into rough rapids in Tumwater Canyon about two miles west of Leavenworth.

Deputies searched for about two hours Wednesday night, Chelan County Sheriff Dan Breda said. They returned Thursday but were unable to find any signs of Smith.

A helicopter will fly over the area Friday, Breda said.
