Heisman watch , Danny Wuerrfel, QB, Florida: Completed 21 of 31 passes for 279 yards and four TDs, in a little more than two quarters.

Troy Davis, RB, Iowa State: Ran for 378 yards, the third-highest total in major-college history, and scored four touchdowns on 41 carries.

Steve Sarkisian, QB, Brigham Young: Completed 23 of 30 passes for 358 yards and one touchdown.

Byron Hanspard, RB, Texas Tech: Rushed for 224 yards, his third straight 200-yard game, and scored three touchdowns against Utah State.

Koy Detmer, QB, Colorado: Completed 16 of 27 passes for 246 yards, with two touchdowns, against Texas A&M.

Curtis Enis, RB, Penn St.: Ran for 115 yards and two TDs.

Peyton Manning, QB, Tennessee: Did not play.

Notable

Louisville redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Redman connected on 35 of 63 passes for 400 yards. Fourteen of his completions went to Miguel Montano for 194 yards.

Virginia extended to 33 its NCAA-record streak of games with at least one interception.

Jacquez Green, Florida, returned two consecutive punts for TDs of 66 and 79 yards.

Rondell Mealey, LSU, scored four touchdowns and ran for 124 yards against New Mexico State.

Albert Connell, Texas A&M, had 18 catches, a school record, for 208 yards. His quarterback, Branndon Stewart, was 34 of 64 passing for 385 yards, all school records.

Oregon’s Ryan Perry-Smith passed for a career-high 468 yards in a loss to Arizona State.

Florida State’s top-ranked defense compiled eight sacks and its special teams blocked two punts and a field goal.

Army and Syracuse picked up their 600th victories; and Nebraska and Penn State won for the 700th time, joining Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas and Alabama in the 700 club.

Pittsburgh, which lost 72-0 to Ohio State last week, has been outscored 117-0 in its last two games.

Wyoming’s Josh Wallwork threw for 305 yards and three TDs to lead the Cowboys over UNLV 33-21. UNLV freshman Jon Denton completed 32 of 46 passes for 486 yards and three TDs.

With its 31-24 loss to Tulsa, Oklahoma has lost six in a row dating to last season, and has not had the lead in a game since its last victory, 13-9 over Missouri in the eighth game of 1995. Tulsa last beat Oklahoma in 1943.

Kentucky managed just 67 total yards and five first downs in a 65-0 loss to No. 1 Florida.

Northwestern’s Darnell Autry rushed for 128 yards against Indiana, marking the 17th consecutive game in which he has topped 100 yards.
