Missouri Looks Like Cyclone Hit It Davis Gains 378 Yards Rushing In Iowa State’s 45-31 Victory

Associated Press

Troy Davis is back on track for 2,000 yards and his fans think he’s back in the running for the Heisman Trophy.

Davis gave a sellout homecoming crowd of 44,941 plenty to cheer about Saturday as he rang up the third-best rushing mark in major-college history, running for 378 yards and four touchdowns to lead Iowa State past Missouri 45-31.

The 5-foot-8, 190-pound junior carried 41 times and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 40-yard run in the fourth quarter. He also scored on runs of 1, 38 and 30 yards as Iowa State (2-2 overall, 1-0 Big 12) fashioned a two-game winning streak for the first time since 1989.

“He’s really, truly an amazing, outstanding, unbelievable football player, whatever accolade you want to lay on him,” Iowa State coach Dan McCarney said.

Davis broke the school record of 302 yards he set against UNLV last season, when he led the nation with 2,010 yards.

In four games, Davis has 917 yards and 12 touchdowns and may become the first I-A player with consecutive 2,000-yard seasons. He had 912 yards after four games last season.

Iowa State scored three times in the final 12 minutes.
