New Coeur D’Alene Dining Spot To Feature Hunting Lodge Atmosphere

Knotty pine walls, leather seats and accents of wild animals’ horns and heads will provide the atmosphere for Hunters Bar & Grill, which should open April 23 at 2108 N. Fourth St. in Coeur d’Alene.

Owner Steve Manning’s plan is that no one will ever associate his restaurant with Skippers, the building’s original tenant. Since Skippers moved to Silver Lake Mall, the 2,500-square-foot facility has gone through a series of unsuccessful tenants.

Manning also hopes the uniqueness of his place will attract customers. Its hunting lodge effects should attract the outdoor folks as well as tourists, he figures.

To accomplish this, he’s putting together a variety of domestic and micro beers, several wines, a specialty menu and a designated cigar area.

The menu will include hunter’s stew, mesquite chicken, smoked barbecue ribs, veggie lasagna, salads, fresh burgers with specially made buns and a variety of sandwiches. Fumes from the cigar area will not invade the remainder of the 60-seat restaurant because of an air purification system, Manning said.

Originally from Idaho Falls, Manning spent 15 years in a similar place that his family operated in Jackson, Wyo. He came to Coeur d’Alene last year from Yakima. He has offered specialized retail beers, wines, specialty food and cigars at his World Foods business near the Silver Lake Motel. When a planned deli portion of the business didn’t work out, he went ahead with his Hunter’s plan, which had been slated for the future.

Construction should begin this month on River Walk Recreational Vehicle Park on the river side of Northwest Boulevard at the Mill Street intersection in Coeur d’Alene.

River Walk will include 60 R.V. spaces on about two acres within an easy walk of the Spokane River. Amenities will include heavy duty electrical hookups, cable TV, telephone and a 3,000-square-foot customer center with showers, a laundry area, game room, meeting room and a manager’s residence. Shelter Associates is the general contractor.

Owners are Art Bale, broker-owner of Re/ Max Preferred Realtors, and investor Jay Landreth of Tum Tum.

Everything should be twice as good about the Anderson Bros. office building under construction at 1810 Schneidmiller Ave. (between the Cathay Inn and Interstate 90), Post Falls.

The owners are identical twins Lee and Les Anderson.

The three-level, 11,500-square-foot building will include the Anderson brothers’ accounting offices on the top floor. They’ll be moving from the Idaho Business Center at 810 Henry. The remainder of the building is for lease. Phone 777-1099.

Originally from Kent, Wash., the Andersons, age 36, were educated at Washington State University and moved to Spokane in 1985. Lee came to Post Falls in 1993; Les lives in Spokane.

One big street rumor this week is that Petco plans to construct a new building between the Target and former Ernst buildings in Coeur d’Alene.

A check with the 30-year-old company at its San Diego headquarters revealed the pet supply company is checking possibilities in North Idaho, but has made no real estate commitments.

Petco has about 350 stores ranging from 3,000 to 15,000 square feet with eight to 20 employees. It offers complete pet supplies and some small pets, including fish, birds, reptiles and small mammals, depending upon the size of the store.
