Ah Yat Sharp In Brief Appearance At Montana’s Spring Scrimmage

Associated Press

Brian Ah Yat completed 6 of 8 passes for 54 yards Saturday in Montana’s second scrimmage of its 1997 spring football drills.

Montana’s first-string offense played in just one series, which was capped by Josh Branen’s 2-yard run.

“I’d be a little disappointed if we weren’t smooth on offense,” UM coach Mick Dennehy said. “Brian has a great presence out there and that has a lot to do with our overall confidence on offense.”

Darren Rowell completed 4 of 6 passes for 36 yards in a drive capped by a 1-yard run by Nate Sanders, who led all rushers with four carries for 28 yards.

Travis Walker had four receptions for 33 yards while Trevor Utter had four catches for 28 yards.

The other score in the 50-minute scrimmage was a 28-yard field goal by Kris Heppner.

“Right now we’re as far along on offense as we have ever been,” Dennehy said. “We have very good depth at running back and at wide receiver.”

Casey Robinson and James Robbins each had two sacks.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Sean Davis struggled, completing 6 of 11 passes for 26 yards with three interceptions.

The Grizzlies resume practice on Monday.
