Explosion Sends Mailbox Parts Flying

From Staff And Wire Reports

Explosives put inside a Coeur d’Alene family’s mailbox launched a piece of the box into a neighboring home last weekend.

Robin Ricks told Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies that he was inside his house on Maple Leaf Road when he heard a loud explosion Saturday night.

When he went out to his front yard, he discovered that someone had blown up his mailbox, according to the sheriff’s report.

The steel mailbox was set inside a wooden box. According to the report, the blast was strong enough to blow bits of mailbox 60 feet.

A neighbor across the street said she found broken glass on the floor of her hallway and her children’s bedroom. She also found the mailbox door on her son’s bed and noticed a hole in the window where it apparently flew into the room, according to the sheriff’s report.

Ricks said he did not know anyone who was mad at him and had no idea who might have blown up his mailbox.
