Man Apparently Died Of Exposure

From Staff And Wire Reports

Authorities found the body of a middle-aged man in a Boundary County cabin last weekend, the apparent victim of extreme weather.

The man, in his 40s to 50s, was found late Friday near the Continental Mine about 5,000 feet above sea level by an Idaho State Police trooper.

Boundary County Search and Rescue workers put together an 18-person retrieval team, but delayed the search until Saturday. That morning, searchers drove snowmobiles to the site, 17 miles north of Bonners Ferry, and recovered the man’s body.

“Judging by the way he was dressed, it appeared he was not prepared for winter,” a Boundary County sheriff’s dispatcher said. “There were no obvious signs of foul play.”

Dispatchers could not estimate how long the man had been dead. The county coroner Monday was performing an autopsy.

Sheriff’s deputies withheld the man’s name until family members had been notified.
