Newlywed Man Accused Of Rape

From Staff And Wire Reports

Coeur d’Alene police arrested an Idaho Falls man after he allegedly assaulted and raped his wife of only two weeks while her 12-year-old daughter watched.

The 31-year-old man - who name is not being disclosed to protect the identity of the victim - was charged Monday with rape of a spouse and domestic battery. He is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $35,000 bond.

Police were called to the Coeur d’Alene Inn early Saturday morning. The young girl told police that she had watched her new stepdad beat up her mother.

The wife told police that she and her husband had argued at a bar earlier in the evening. She went back to the motel alone and went to bed, according to the police report. She told police she was awakened by her husband, who punched her in the back of the head.

The man grabbed his wife, put a pillow over her face and allegedly raped her, according to her report.

The woman told police she thought her new husband was trying to kill her.

The 12-year-old girl was in the next bed during the struggle, according to the police report.

The man first told police that he and his wife had argued but that they had not gotten into a physical fight. Later he accused his wife of attacking him.
