Powwow, Talks At Awareness Week

A weekend powwow and feast are two of the highlights during Native American Awareness Week at Eastern Washington University.

The powwow, which starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at EWU’s Phase Athletic Complex, features intertribal dances and the Yakama Nation Warrior Honor Guard. The feast follows at 5 p.m.

Events today include:

“How to Successfully Complete a College Degree Program,” 11 a.m. at the Pence Union Building. Eastern graduate Charlene Bearcub talks about her minor in American Indian Studies.

Michelle Henderson, director of American Indian Business Leaders, talks about efforts to increase the number of American Indians with business degrees to assist tribal economic development. Noon at the Pence Union Building.

Friday:

“Holistic Health,” 11 a.m. at the Pence Union Building. Leroy Seth, a health educator for Northern Idaho Indian Health Services, will speak about family and dance, and their relationship to holistic health.

Al Pinkham, former chairman of the Nez Perce Nation, shares his experience with the gray wolf recovery and reintroduction project. Noon at the Pence Union Building.

Stories about Wolf and Coyote will be told. 7 p.m., second floor of Senior Hall.
