Feds Target Key Figures
Federal authorities investigating possible point-shaving by Fresno State basketball players have subpoenaed all of the university’s athletic department records dating back to January 1996.
The Fresno Bee reported at least five people were subpoenaed to appear before the federal grand jury in Fresno on Thursday. They included Michael Der Manouel Sr., an insurance man and basketball booster with whom guard Chris Herren lived part of the past season.
The investigation is focusing on Herren and point guard Dominick Young because both had been seen consorting with a businessman The Bee has called a major sports bookie. Herren, Young and the alleged bookie all have denied any involvement in point-shaving.
