Greater Spokane League double-dual track meets begin today.

Defending champions: Mead boys and girls.

Postseason results: Mead boys and girls won state titles, with the Ferris girls second.

Returning state placers, boys: Isaac Hawkins, Ferris (champion 1,600, champion 3,200); Jason Fayant, Mead (2nd 1,600, 2nd 3,200); Robbie Warnock, CV (5th 800); Spencer Smith, Mead (6th javelin); Mead 400 relay (champion, Dunlap and McCullough back); CV 1,600 relay (fifth).

Returning state placers, girls: Jennifer Smith, Ferris (champion 3,200, 2nd 1,600); Missy Blackshire, Ferris (champion 800); Teresa Brooks, LC (3rd 400); Katie Pollock, Mead (5th 3,200); Whitney Schmaljohn, CV (6th 200); Jamie Rosenquist, LC (6th 800); Abbie Horstein, Mead (8th 100); Jamie Wakefield, Mead (8th triple jump); Mead 400 relay (champion, Horstein back); Mead 800 relay (champion, Hornstein back); LC 1,600 relay (champion, Karie Nichols and Brooks back); CV 1,600 relay (3rd).

New coaches: Aaron Hansen, Rogers boys; Matt Wakabayashi, NC boys and girls.

Key meets: The Mead boys have won 15 league titles. The battle for second is wide open. On the girls side, Ferris, CV and U-Hi meet today at University. The winner has the best chance to end Mead’s four-year winning streak.

Big invitationals: Pasco is this weekend, Mooberry is at Rogers on April 26 and Strandberg is at CV May 10.

Postseason: District 8 is at CV May 15-16 and the Eastern Regional is May 23-24 at CV. State is once again in Tacoma over Memorial Day weekend.
